Gambling is tightly restricted in the United States, we don’t need to tell you that, but you don’t have to head for the City of Sin or Atlantic City to get your fix. Thanks to individual state laws and nationwide Indian Gaming laws, there are many legal casinos in the country, from Alabama to Wisconsin, and in this article we’ll point some of them out, state by state.
Alabama
There are only three casinos in this state and all are Native American Casinos. None of them, however, have gaming tables so there is no chance of blackjack here unfortunately. These include Wind Creek Casino and two Creek Casinos.
Arizona
There are a total of 22 casinos in this state so there is plenty of choose from. Again, all of these are Native American Casinos and there are plenty of table games, with standout casinos including the Desert Diamond Casinos in Somerton, Why, Tucson and elsewhere, and the Paradise Casino in Yuma.
California
This is a huge state and one that has no shortage of gambling destinations. From the Barona Valley Ranch Resort in San Diego, to the Bicycle Casino in LA, there is plenty of action here. California is famous for its card rooms, so this is a great place to get in some games of blackjack.
Colorado
There are many casinos in Black Hawk, Gilpin, including the Bullpen and the Central Station Casino. There are a few dozen across this liberal state, including a number owned by the Golden Gaming group.
Connecticut
There are only three casinos in this state but they include the Foxwoods Resort, which is the biggest in the country.
Delaware
With four gambling destinations, including the Harrington Raceway & Casino and the Dover Downs, racing is king in Delaware, but there are some card games to be found as well.
Florida
There are many casinos in the Sunshine State and this is where the Native American tribe the Seminole reside, with the Hard Rock Hotel brand. There are also a number of casino cruises, race tracks and poker rooms, including Derby Lane and the Daytona Beach Poker Room.
Idaho
Not a wide choice, but around half a dozen casinos, including Fort Hall Casino and Clearwater Casino, both of which are Native American Casinos.
Illinois
With the Harrah’s brand owning two casinos in this state, and some other choices also available, Illinois gamblers have it relatively easy.
Indiana
Racing is big in this state, as is casino gambling. The gambling destinations here include the Horseshoe Casino, Hoosier Park and Blue Chip Casino.
Iowa
The Diamond Jo group have a couple of casinos in Iowa, and the Horseshoe and Harrah’s in Council Bluffs are also standout destinations.
Kansas
Located in Mulvane, the Kansas Star Casino is one of the standout casinos in a state that only has 8 casinos at the time of writing.
Louisiana
Although not quite Nevada, there is plenty of Southern hospitality and gambling to be had in this state. There are a number of racetracks, card rooms and casinos, including a couple from Harrah’s, Horseshoe and the River City Casino, which is located in New Orleans.
Maine
This state has just two casinos, the Hollywood in Bangor, and the Oxford Casino in Oxford.
Maryland
Some of the most visited casinos in Maryland include the Hollywood Casino in Perryville and the Horseshoe in Baltimore. There are 6 casinos in Maryland in total.
Michigan
There are about 3 dozen casinos in this state, with some of the best located in the city of Detroit, such as the MGM Grand.
Minnesota
Although it comes as a surprise to many, this state actually has a lot going for it when it comes to gambling destinations. The Shooting Star Casino is a great pick, but there are many others here as well, including Treasure Island and Seven Clans.
Mississippi
With 20+ casinos, there are plenty of chances to play blackjack and get your gambling fix in Mississippi. The best of the bunch include Bally’s and Silver Star.
Missouri
Mark Twain and Lady Luck are two casinos that are worth a visit in this state, but there are around a dozen more that are worth your time.
Nevada
If we wrote about the casinos in this state we’d be here all day. Gambling is legal across Nevada and is at its biggest in Reno and Vegas, with the biggest names here, including MGM, Bally’s and Harrah’s.
New Jersey
The casinos in this state are all located in Atlantic City, with the Trump Taj Mahal being one of the biggest.
New Mexico
Pay a visit to the Camel Rock or the Apache Nugget for your gambling fix in New Mexico. There are also stacks of other casinos in this state.
New York
Surprisingly, New York has plenty of casinos, including Turning Stone, Tioga Downs and Yellow Brick Road. These are either Native American Casinos or raceinos.
North Carolina
There are only two casinos in this state, both in Cherokee and both are Native American Casinos.
Ohio
There are about a dozen casinos in Ohio, spread across the state, including Hollywood casinos in Columbus and Toledo.
Oklahoma
This state has a huge number of casinos, easily surpassing 50. These are all Native American Casinos and are spread across the state
Oregon
With about a dozen venues to choose from, you’ll enjoy the best gambling action in this state by visiting the Old Camp Casino in Burns, or the Indian Head in Warm Springs.
Pennsylvania
Stand-alone and racinos are plentiful here, with a dozen or so in total, including the Penn, the Rivers Casino and the Sands Casino.
South Dakota
There are many small casinos and card rooms in Dead Wood, which is where all of the gambling is in this state.
Texas
Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass is the only casino in Texas.
Washington
This state has close to 50 casinos, including a few Silver Dollar Casinos and the Royal Casino in Everett.
West Virginia
There are five casinos here, the highlight of which is the Hollywood Casino in Charles Town.
Wisconsin
About a dozen venues in total, highlights in Wisconsin include the Mole Lake and the Menominee.
Wyoming
There are only three casinos in this state, and none of them are particularly big or impressive. These include the Wind River and the Little Wind.
